English Language Classes

English

English Class (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced)

English classes are offered to students at various skill levels including beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Skill levels are determined through testing and assessment, and students are placed in classes accordingly. Topics and class sizes will vary. Classes are offered at various times throughout the week.

Dual-Language Class

Dual-language classes are offered for beginning level English speakers. These classes include a staff assistant who speaks English and the student's first language available to support with learning. Dual-language classes are offered in the following languages:

Arabic-English Class

French-English Class

Kurdish-English Class

Spanish-English Class

Ukrainian-Russian-English Class

Karen-English Class

Vietnamese-English Class

Reading and Writing Class

The class for reading and writing will help improve reading skills including pronunciation, fluency and comprehension. Writing will focus on improving sentence structure and essay writing.

Conversation Class

This class focuses on developing a student's English conversation skills in a group setting. Advanced students learn advanced English concepts like idioms and practice their understanding through conversation with other students.

Family Literacy (FLAIR)

FLAIR is an interactive class in which children and adults are invited to participate with other families online to learn English. In this class, families will learn the alphabet, the pronunciation of sounds and short words, and reading-readiness skills, and much more. We focus on kids' interests, and explore topics such as nature, science, culture, food, history and more through songs, stories, games, virtual field trips, crafts, and art. Students can also receive homework assistance through tutoring.

Citizenship Class

In this class, students will learn key civics concepts and prepare for the U.S. citizenship test and interview.
