About the event

Give to Lincoln Day is a time when everyone in Lincoln comes together to donate to organizations critical to the care, support, and spirit of our great city. Coordinated by Lincoln Community Foundation, the event is intended to be a bonus fundraising opportunity for local nonprofits and to promote philanthropy in Lincoln and Lancaster County. Every donation makes a bigger impact on Give to Lincoln Day because we'll receive a proportional share of a $650,000 match fund made possible by Lincoln Community Foundation and generous sponsors — the largest match fund in Give to Lincoln Day's history!

Give now at GivetoLincoln.com.

Supporting Lincoln Literacy will help us expand our services to the 1,600+ English language and adult skills students we serve every year.

Here are some ways you can give for Give to Lincoln Day.

Online

We recommend donating online to maximize the impact of your gift. Donations may be made online anytime between May 1 and May 30. Online donations may be made beginning May 1. Gifts made between May 1 and May 30 will count toward the event, show on the leaderboard when the giving day begins on May 30, and be eligible for the challenge match fund. Online donations will be updated in real-time on the leaderboard at www.givetolincoln.com on May 30.

Checks

Donations may be made via check and dropped off in person at the LCF office on May 30 (8am-5pm) or mailed to the address below. Gifts must be postmarked by May 23 to count toward the event and be eligible for the challenge match fund.

Lincoln Community Foundation

215 Centennial Mall S Ste 100

Lincoln, NE 68508

Please write checks to “Lincoln Community Foundation” with "Lincoln Literacy" specified in the memo line. If you are donating to multiple nonprofits, write one check for the total and include a separate list of nonprofits and amounts to each). LCF will charge the same 2.9% fee as Firespring Foundation charges for online gifts. Fees received from offline gifts are directed to grants for local nonprofits.

You may also drop off donations between May 1 and May 30 at Presenting Sponsor, West Gate Bank's Lincoln branches via the lobby or the commercial drop drawers. Visit westgate.bank/locations for lobby hours.

Donor Advised Fund

Additionally, you may give via a donor-advised fund (administered by Lincoln Community Foundation). When using a donor-advised fund, there is a minimum $100 grant per nonprofit. Grant recommendations can be submitted through the My LCF Login at www.lcf.org and are encouraged to be made before May 23.

IRA

Donors who are 70½ or older may make qualified charitable distributions from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) to charities participating in Give to Lincoln Day. For more information on this giving method, click here.

IRA owners must complete the IRA Give to Lincoln Day Distributions Form found on the Toolkit page and submit it to the Lincoln Community Foundation by May 10 by mail (address in Offline section) or email to rhondap@lcf.org. In order for the gift to be included as part of Give to Lincoln Day, LCF must receive this distribution by May 30. Gifts from IRAs will be subject to the 2.9% fee assessed on other offline gifts.

Goals of Give to Lincoln Day:

  1. Introduce new donors to local nonprofit organizations.
  2. Help Lincoln nonprofit organizations tell their stories and educate Lincoln about the positive impact they have on our lives.
  3. Shine a community spotlight on this day of charitable giving to raise a substantial amount of new money to assist the local nonprofit network.

Donations given to Lincoln Literacy during the month of May will further our mission to strengthen our community by teaching the English language and a variety of literacy skills to people of all cultures. This includes providing transportation, childcare, and free adult skills classes for immigrants, refugees, and all others in need.

Support our 1,600+ students and 185 volunteer tutors on Give to Lincoln Day, May 1-30. Help us reach our fundraising goal of $160,000 and finish in the Top Ten on the leaderboard!

In 2023, we increased the number of students served by 50% and are seeing another rise this year. Our students come from 75 different countries (including the U.S.). They want to improve their literacy, prepare for the GED, or gain the skills necessary to enter the workforce in Lincoln.  With your support, we provide free English and workplace classes 6 days per week at 16 locations with 100+ free classes per week. Thank you for your generous support!
